  • Academic Webinar Novel Civic Activism in Armenia: Its Nature, Challenges, Impact and Prospects
    October 12, 2016, Wednesday 12:00 pm – EST

    Based on case studies of four civic activist campaigns, namely Save Teghut, Preserve Afrikyan Club Building, Dem Em (“I Am Against”) and Electric Yerevan — the webinar will reflect on the role of independent civic activism in Armenia, describe civic groups at the forefront, and analyze organized civic actions and methods used. The talk will address the origin and reasons for the campaigns, their challenges and impact so far, lessons learnt as well as prospects for future activism. The presentation will also reflect on both cooperation and tensions between formal civic organizations and informal civic groups and networks in the country.   • PSIA Seminar Civic Activism, Political Activism and Social Media in Armenia

    The seminar will examine the social and political participation among the Armenian population, presenting the data from public opinion survey and the use of social media by various population groups. The analysis is part of a larger ongoing research project on civic activism in Armenia. The talk will be held by TCPA Assistant Director Jenny Paturyan.   • 20th Anniversary of the PSIA First Graduating Class and the Establishment of TCPA

  • Constitutional Reforms Informative Discussion (organised by AUA CHSS)
    September 23, 2015 Tuesday 6:30 – 8:00 pm Yerevan, Armenia

    The presentation will discuss two systems of government (parliamentary and presidential), as types of democratic governance, with some empirical evidence on democratic performance of currently existing parliamentary and presidential states. The second presentation will address the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia. The talks will be followed by a Q&A session.

  • TCPA Research Presentation

    TCPA will present the findings of the recently completed 2012 – 2014 study entitled Armenian Civil Society after Twenty Years of Transition: Still Post-Communist? supported by the Academic Swiss Caucasus Net (ASCN). The study discusses the communist legacy, trust toward the civil society sector, engagement and membership in the civil society organizations, volunteering, changes in the social and political environment of Armenia and more. The final manuscript of the study is available here. The presentation of the research is organized in the framework of the ASCN Armenian Research Grantees Networking event.

  • PSIA Faculty Research Presentation

    Political Science and International Affairs program (PSIA) visiting senior lecturer Dr. Vahram Ter-Matevosyan and graduates of the PSIA program will share the main findings of  their research entitled “Integration vs. Security: Revisiting Armenia’s Decision to Join the Customs Union”, which has been conducted in the framework of the “Research Beyond the Ivory Tower: Policy and Communications Training for University Teams” project aiming to increase the capacity of university professionals in the South Caucasus and Central Asia to set the agenda for public debate, supported by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, based in Oslo.

  • ASCN Armenian Research Grantees First Networking event

    TCPA will host the first networking event for the ASCN research grantees in Armenia where they can get to know each other better. The event will provide with a useful opportunity to meet, discuss research and share ideas with other researchers in a supportive setting.  One of the team leaders Tigran Matosyan will present their research “The value of self-control in the parenting preferences, favorite childhood proverbs and literature of Armenian and Indian students” to be followed by a discussion.

  • Work-in-progress talk

    Mariella Falkenhain, research associate at the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin, Germany and a visiting researcher at TCPA will provide a work-in-progress talk by putting emphasis on two crucial questions in the social scientific research process: ‘How to do theory-guided research without anticipating research outcomes?’ and ‘How to get the data you need?’. Both questions are discussed based on specific examples of Mariella’s research project on the role of NGOs in the processes of institutional change in Armenia and Georgia.
